Since the tornado,
I've been walking for days
to learn about houses.

I've learned a lot
about toads:
where on windows
and railings they perch,
where in the ground
they gather to sleep.

The band-aids have begun
to fall off my feet.
The opossums carry them off
in their mouths. Now
how will I retrace my steps
again and again.
